Household focus of the design
Understanding Society collects information on all members of sampled households. This is important for research on, for example:
- consumption and income, where within-household sharing of resources is important
- demographic change, where the household itself is often the object of study
- decision making within the family
- comparative analysis of sibling outcomes
In addition, the household focus provides opportunities to:
- explore linkages outside the household
- examine long-term transmission processes from one generation to the next
