Multi-purpose multi-topic survey

Understanding Society is a multi-purpose survey supporting a very wide range of research agendas. This means it cannot have the in depth focus that more specialist surveys can achieve. The strength of Understanding Society arises from bringing together information on many life course domains. For more details on the wide range of topics covered in the study see Content.

Understanding Society aims both to meet the needs of traditional panel use disciplines (economics, social policy and sociology) and support more interdisciplinary work within the social sciences (e.g., geography and economics); within the biomedical sciences (e.g., psychology); and between the two.
