Main sample - general population

The initial main sample was randomly selected from the Postcode Address File from randomly selected postcode districts to be nationally representative. The survey started in January 2009 with a sample of around 48,000 addresses in Great Britain, which were selected at random from 2,640 postcode sectors, and 2,400 addresses selected from the Land and Property Services Agency in Northern Ireland.
