Specialist Advisory Committees
The three specialist advisory committees for methodology, ethnicity, and health indicators and biomarkers provide expert advice on content and data collection methods specific to their specialist domains.
Ethnicity Strand Advisory Committee
The responsibility of this committee is to shape the ethnicity strand of Understanding Society to ensure it meets the needs of the research and user communities (including potential future research users) concerned with questions of ethnicity, within the constraints of competing demands for questionnaire space.
The work of this committee ranges from helping the ethnicity team engage users and potential users in consultation over questionnaire content to discussing changing research priorities and the dissemination of results.

Health and Biomarker Advisory Committee
The responsibility of this committee is to contribute to the development of the health and biomarker strand of Understanding Society by ensuring that it meets the needs of the research and user communities (including potential future users). Biomarkers are related to people's health such as height, weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This might also include the analysis of blood and saliva samples which can provide indicators of problems such as heart disease and diabetes. This committee will aim to identify optimal measures of physical and mental health and biomarkers, for collection within time constraints for respondents to complete the questionnaire.
The wide-ranging work of this committee will include providing advice and support regarding ethical issues in biomarker and health indicator data collection and engaging users in consultation about questionnaire content.
